2019년 ‘아시아미술제’는 이전의 사라졌던 수식어가 회복되어 ‘청년아시아미술제’로 회귀한다. 과거에 붙었던 수식어를 다시금 사용하는 이유는 청년에게 더욱 많은 기회를 제공하고 신선한 볼거리와 동시대의 감성과 상상력을 선보이기 위함이다. 2018년부터 전시의 신조는 ‘쉬움’으로 이어나가고자 한다. 일반적으로 ‘가벼움’과 직결된 느낌으로 다가올 수 있으나, 작가들이 자신만의 고민을 통해 만들어낸 결과물들이 가볍게 보이거나 흥미 위주, 볼거리 작업으로 간주함을 의미하지 않는다. 여기서 말하는 쉬움은 작가들의 정신적 표현의 결과물과 이를 관람하는 관객과의 연결의 쉬움으로 그 의미를 가지고자 한다. 이러한 연결에 있어 형식과 내용은 중요한 요소이며, 정신성과 형식성이 상호보완적인 작품들 통하여 관객과 호흡하는 힘을 보여주고자 한다.
In 2019, ‘Asia Art Festival’ returns as ‘Asia Art Festival for Young Artists’ restoring its previous title. The previous title was reinstated to offer the young artists greater opportunities and to present innovative spectacle, contemporary sensitivity and imagination. Since 2018, the motto of the exhibition has been ‘easiness’. While the theme may suggest direct relation to ‘lightness’, it does not mean that artwork-the outcome of artists’ individual deliberation-is displayed indiscreetly or considered as mere casual spectacle. Indeed, the ‘easiness’ in this context refers to an easy connection between the artists’ mental expression and the audience who views the artwork. To this end, the form and content are integral components. In this, the exhibition aims to demonstrate the capacity to interact with the audience through artwork in which mentality and formality are complementary.
